| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Sloth bears are the insectivores of the bear world. They have a number of interesting adaptations that enable them to exploit ants and termites as primary food sources.
The bear's snout is also much more mobile than other species and the hair is greatly reduced. In addition, the first pair of upper incisor teeth have disappeared, providing an opening for effectively sucking insects into the mouth. |

Hello Subhash
What a rare and fantastic sighting of this amazing creature.
Any photo of a wild sloth bear is a treasure. You were very privileged to meet up with this chap.
Out of all my trips to Ranthambhore N.P. I only had one encounter with a sloth bear and that was October 2007, he stayed with us for about 45 minutes, it was like he didnt even know we existed, or didnt care. He was about 30 feet away from us. I am sure he knew we were there, but their eyesight is so very poor, he would have used his fantastic sense of smell and excellent hearing to keep tabs on us.
Great photo.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Regards
Roy
