Scientific Name:
Funambulus palmarum

Common Name: Three-striped Palm Squirrel, Ghilahari (Hindi), Anil (Tamil), Kalandakaha (Sanskrit)

Distribution: Throughout India

Squirrels are considered sacred in India and are not to be harmed. They are even fed by many Hindu families. This is mainly because of their association with Lord Rama.

An interesting legend explains the stripes on the back of most of the squirrels. During the construction of the Adi sethu (bridge) at Rameswaram by Lord Rama and the vanara sena , a little squirrel also contributed in its own little way. It rolled in the beach sand and then ran to the end of the sethu to shake off the sand from its back (chanting Lord Rama's name all along).

Lord Rama, pleased by the creature's dedication, caressed the squirrel's back and ever since, the Indian squirrel carried white stripes on its back, which are believed to be the mark of Lord Rama's fingers.

Hello Ram
Great, cute squirrel. Great composition, very good homogenous background. Unfortunately there are little problems with sharpness.
Your note is also very informative I didnt know that squirrels are considered sacred in India
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Hi Ram.
My hearty congratulations. You managed to catch amazing scene and have done it perfectly. Simply great timing and composition of the picture. Pose of the animal is superb as well as the impressive trunk and knot. I am impressed with pictorial BG and reproduction of all charming details of the animal. Bravo.
Alexei.

Hi Ram!
Another interesting presentatio with squirrel. I like natural pose and timing (during dinner ;>). Picture is really nice composed and has good light control. On the other hand a little better DOF would be good to keep entire body of species in the focus :)
Anyway, it is still nice for watching!
Friendly yours,
Radomir

Your image shows the good quality not only of your sight but of that Nikon which loves this kind of image and focal length...Very fine use of your depth of field and a simply leasing image to gaze at...

Another great shot from you, Ram. Really an artistic work with that beautiful bg, posture, pov and framing. Just when i looking into your photo, i sense a bit soft on some little areas on squirrel, might be a bit sharpen could be useful. Anyway i like the photo very much, a great shot i should say!

Hallo Ram
What a fine shot of this cute little animal. The composition is wonderful and you have captured the squirrel in a good moment and pose. This looks like a cross between a squirrel and something else, but I cannot really pin point what other animal. To me it is more beautiful than the red or grey squirrels we often see on Trek Nature. I just love the stripes on the fur. Well presented and well framed. Thanks for sharing this cute little guy.
Kind regards
Anna

Gran encuadre, buena luz y acertado fondo, aunque evidentemente falta enfoque y profundidad.

Hello Ram,
Excellent capture.I liked POV,natural colors, lighting and visual impact a lot.

What a cute little Squirrel!
You've captured a classic pose from a great POV.
Lovely coloured BG that is completely blurred and causes the Squirrel to stand out really well.
Excellent composition using the trunk on the right to balance the photo.
Seems a little flat to me so a boost of contrast and saturation may give it a bit more "punch" :-)
Slightly un-sharp as well but that's due to the slowish shutter-speed and couldn't really been helped.
I did a workshop to show some possible improvements. I hope you don't mind!
Nevertheless still a very pleasing image, in my opinion, which deserves a big green smiley!

Thanks for sharing this one!

Hi ram
extellent capture of this sqiurell
maybe the focus is a bit too soft
then only the head is in focus but this timing and moment are just fantastic

This is a delightful capture, Ram.
The composition by the tree trunk, sharpness against anatural OOF BG, not to mention the classic squirrel pose all contribute towards making this a very nice picture to view.
Thanks for sharing it,
