Emperor's New Groove
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a yellow throated sparrow or chestnut shouldered petronia - Petronia superciliaris.
Identification-
It is a generally unremarkable bird although the long, pointed black bill of the breeding males is very distinctive. In the same region the only other birds with big, black bills are male Dead Sea Sparrows which have bold head patterns and Desert Finches which have pink and black wings. The yellow patch in the throat which gives the bird its name is not particularly obvious even in breeding males and the chestnut patch near the bend of the wing can be even harder to see. In non-breeding plumage, the plain head and breast, and neat white wing-bar on the median coverts gives the impression of a long-billed Chaffinch.
Nests in holes in trees such as Pistacio or Eucalyptus.
Found in just a few parts of south-east Turkey such as the Pistachio groves just north of Birecik.
About 50 breeding pairs in southern Turkey, part of a larger population breeding in Iran, Pakistan and India. |

Hi Subhayan , I like your choice for composition over close up , the old tree stump has a lot of character , also its line leads one to the sparrow , I think it works nicely.
regards
