Friends,

As I mentioned in one of notes, it rains intermittently in Delhi and this butterfly seem to have drenched in the rain and was carring dirt. Probably tired and was on this leaf for a long time. May be "looking for something Green"

The Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus) or - outside Asia - African Monarch is a common butterfly which is widespread in Asia and Africa. It belongs to the danaine ("Crows and Tigers") subfamily of the brushfooted butterfly family Nymphalidae.

It is believed to be one of the first butterflies to be used in art. A 3500 year old Egyptian fresco in Luxor features the oldest illustration of this species.

The Plain Tiger can be considered the archetypical danaine of India. Accordingly, this species has been studied with in greater detail than other members of its subfamily occurring in India.

Life history
The Plain Tiger breeds throughout the year in India, except in the Himalayas where it is seasonal. This presumabnly applies in a similar way to the other tropical and subtropical parts of its range too.

Egg
===
The female Plain Tiger perches on the upperside of a leaf and, curling its abdomen around the edge, lays an egg on the underside. Only one egg is laid per leaf to avoid overcrowding of the caterpillars. The egg is silvery white, shiny, tall, bullet-shaped with an apical point and ribbed sides.

Distribution
============
The range of the Plain Tiger extends from Africa and southern Europe, eastwards via Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar to China and Sulawesi. It is a very common species.

dear ganesan,

the shutter speed of 1/50 is too slow for a handheld shot and that too whn you are using a bulky lens like 180mm macro. i think that due to camers shake the image got blurred here. Its better to take support to make the camera shake free. however the composition is good and the pov is nice but poor sharpness spoils everything for me. your title are always well thought off and this one is full of humour.

I am expecting a lot better from you considering your some of the previous posts where you did excellent work.

Rain can be a problem everywhere. It certainly upset my plans today!

This is a lovely detailed shot showing the distinctive markings around the head and the body which are repeated around the tips of the wings. Great colours and good, off-centre composition.

Wonderful subject and setting but the softness in focus makes the image a bit not-your-kind. I agree with Pankaj and henceforth take extra care to not miss an opportunity. Nice colours and lighting here. I like your chosen POV and the superb composition. Kudos.
