[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I just mentioned to Ulla while writing a critique on her recent picture that this last Sunday, a Purple Sunbird landed on a hedge just about two feet away from me and did its usual routine of getting into and popping out the hedge, least mindful of my presence. I was actually looking for dragonflies there; it is their favourite place. So without further thought, I took a couple of pictures of this little bird literally under my nose. Mind you, it is a very finnicky bird and difficult to shoot firstly because of its small size, secondly because of the metallic sheen on its plumage and thirdly because it never stands still.
The pictures did not turn out to be of good quality. However, just to preserve the moment, I somehow struggled at editing one of them and here is the result.

About Purple Sunbird

The Purple Sunbird, Cinnyris asiaticus, is a sunbird. The sunbirds are a group of very small Old World passerine birds which feed largely on nectar, although they will also take insects, especially when feeding young. Flight is fast and direct on their short wings. Most species can take nectar by hovering like a hummingbird, but usually perch to feed most of the time.
Purple Sunbird is an abundant resident breeder across tropical southern Asia from the Persian Gulf to Southeast Asia. One to three eggs are laid in a suspended nest in a tree.
Purple Sunbirds are tiny, only 10cm long. They have medium-length thin down-curved bills and brush-tipped tubular tongues, both adaptations to their nectar feeding.
The adult male is mainly glossy purple. The eclipse male has a yellow-grey upperparts and a yellow breast with a blue central streak extending to the belly. The female has yellow-grey upperparts and yellowish under parts, and a faint supercilium. The call is a humming zit zit.
This species is found in a variety of habitats with some trees, including forest and cultivation.

Hello Ram,
Whatever you had to do in the PP seems to have come off. You have a fine image with pretty good sharpness, of a dorsal view of the male Purple Sunbird showing its iridescent finery.
Nice composition, the red flowers that attracted it framing it in ina very attractive way.
TFS this beauty, well worth posting,
All the best, Ivan

Hello Ram,
I'm glad you managed to capture this beautiful little bird - its metallic blue is really striking. I know they're not easy to catch when they flit about but you did very well here. I like its stretched-out pose and the way it is surrounded by the sort of flowers it likes. Fine details and lovely colours!
TFS and kind regards, Ulla

I thought of a couple of pics as well when I saw this one Ram;...so many aviaries do have similarities both in appearance and in behavior but can at times be of completely different sub species...it is a complex natural world, but we do well in classification and such...now go back and write some more...I feel like my soap opera, called your life, is in summer reruns:-)
