Friends, the other day I came across this strange looking Diptera in the garden.
It was sitting motionless on one of the green and white long leaves of an ornate plant that grows at the ground level in the garden.
The fly was very small -- maybe 1cm in length.
The one and only one shot turned out to be quite nice and I am posting it today.
You will notice that it has the typical Diptera reddish brown eyes, a dark brown thorax with some pattern on it and an off-white abdomen with dark spots on it. The pair of wings is transparent.
Could it be an albino Hoverfly?
I have not found even a single image on the web matching this fly.
Could an expert throw some light on it?

Here is the exif data:

Hi Ram,
i wish i could help with ID but i'm afraid my knowledge in such areas is limited to non existant! However, i do think it is a very bold and well seen composition with a very good DOF - very well done.

Hello Ram sir,
very nice capture of insect with excellent DOF,good composition and having great details, superb macro shot,
TFS

Hello Ram,

Very nice sharp picture of this fly. I do not think it is a syrphid fly. To get the ID, the best would be to post your picture on this site www.diptera.info, I am sure there will be someone who knows it. Excellent composition, very good light and colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

PS: the best guess for me is that it is a soldier fly, perhaps Odontomyia sp.

Albion? I wonder if all species have a rare albino counterpart? Interesting question you bring up. Every so often I hear of an albino this or that and once in a while it is a new one to me, mostly in the mammals however but I am sure in the insect world as well...an anomaly? Well whatever it is, it is identifiable. Now all we need is an eggs-pert.

Hi Ram,

A top-notch macro of this fly looking so comfortable on the leaf. He picked the perfect place to show himself off. Wonderful color combinations - isn't off-white unusual for a fly? Excellent details with the eyes really standing out. The background is perfect.

Jane

Hi Ram,
That's a very stange insect. But to those that know a lot about insects, like you probably not. The head looks like a regular fly, but the boddy is so different.
You captured this insect in a very artistic way. The single leave positioned diagonally makes the photo very beautiful.
TFS,
Niek

Dear Ram Sir,
Unique specimen on the leaf ! Looks like country cousin of fire fly :) TFS.

Hello sir,
Interesting capture indeed. Its colours in one way compliment the colour of the leaf. The shot if dine, crisp, and with great clarity and sharpness.

For a 1cm subject this one is really clear and big.I like the way you have composed with the leaf in the middle in a diagonal position. The muted Bg helps to focus entirely on the subject and its perch.

TFS & Cheers

Hello Ram,
A little bit late..but this shot is extremely interesting from the subject and also because of the graphical aspect of the picture. Excellent sharpness also. Mes compliments
