Frinds,

I was travelling to chennai on the 9th morning flight. suddenl when I opened my eyes I saw this beautiful sky where the sun rays piercing through. Took the permission to shoot. (Last time was refused). Hope you all like it.

===================
Crepuscular rays, in atmospheric optics, also known as sun rays, God's rays or the Fingers of God, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from a single point in the sky. These rays, which stream through gaps in clouds or between other objects, are diverging columns of sunlit air separated by darker cloud-shadowed regions. The name comes from their frequent occurrences during crepuscular hours (those being dawn and dusk), when the contrasts between light and dark are the most obvious. Various airborne compounds scatter the sunlight and make these rays visible, due to diffraction, reflection, and scattering.
===================

Crepuscular rays are near-parallel, but appear to diverge because of linear perspective. They often occur when objects such as mountain peaks or clouds partially shadow the sun's rays like a cloud cover. There are three primary forms of crepuscular rays:

Red Rays of light penetrating holes in low clouds (also called "Jacob's Ladder").
Beams of light diverging from behind a cloud.
Pale, pinkish or reddish rays that radiate from below the horizon. These are often mistaken for light.

The monsoon clouds seen from an airplane look like a phantamagoria of shapes and colours, Ganesan, and you have captured a fine one during your flight yesterday morning.
The slanting sunrays escaping through cloud cover have lit up the cloud shapes below you into interesting looking apparitions in varied colours.
It is a wonderful sight which reminds me of my flight back home from the Middle East on July 5, 2007.
I think you might have seen a couple of my monsoon cloud images I posted at that time.
Regards,
Ram

Hi Ganesh,

I see we were on the same wave length today with our sky shots - mine from below, yours from above. Much more dramatic from the plane with the magnificent rays. I love the shadings and patterns.

Hello Ganesh!

Wow, what a beautifull spectacle of light and clouds! Absolutelly stunnig picture. Cutains of light look very soft and warm and shapes of clouds are amazing.

Hello Gannesh,

What interesting notes. I had no idea that there were different sorts of sun rays!

I can understand why people would think God is speaking to us, with a shot like this! It is a breathtaking shot!
I particularly like how the rays are making golden lines across the grey, bubbling clouds.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Lovely… Lovely and LOVELY. I am sorry that every day I can not follow the net as I am now busy to teach photography to some deaf students in Delhi beside my visit to Solan. So, normally only on Saturday I check the net to watch the beautiful pictures clicked by you and other TN friends.

Hello Amazing colors and what a stunning rays. Vignesh

Extraordinary shot! The pattern of the clouds, the sun rays and different shades of red and orange create a magcial image. the clouds all seem to point towards the sun.

Hi Ganesh,
Am a big fan of cloud and sky shots and this is just awesome!!!The lighting and palette create a great mood.

One would have seen a scene quite similar to this so many times on a flight but either ou are not in a position to click or no camera in hand or worst still you could sitting in the aisle and leaning over the middle and the widow person to just admire the beauty of the breaking morning or setting evening sun.

"5.59" A great time not only to be up and about but also get a ride right up to the sky and float through the clouds to enjoy the beauty of the morning sky.Superb breathtaking view Ganesh, you have cpatured the shot in one of the most magnificent moments and in a superb Pov allowing good Dof.

I love the framing and the composition and the colours well highlighted throughout the shot.The gradual spread of the light high up in the sky and the gentle fading away to the bottom of the composition where the rays havent yet pierced through the clouds is so well picturised.Also a great idea to have the thin lateral coloum of dark cloud on the top part of the composition that adds a plus to the shot and creates a fine contrast with the lighted portion in the middle.

A shot very impressively captured and well presented.

TFS & Cheers

Hello Narayanan
The is just amazing! I'm so glad they let you take this heavenly image of the clouds. You look like you are way up in the atmosphere by the curve of the horizon. Just a gorgeous image.
