One from my archives.
I was off for a walk at Badhkal Lake, where I got a lot many shots of parrots. But this one made a strange piho piho kind of a cry right over my head and captured my attention.
I feel this is a Barbet, but which one, I do not know. This juvenile bird was quite big, almost as big as a adult Lineated Barbet..
Is this a baby Great Barbet?

Well, as it turns out,it isn't!
This is a Brown Headed Barbet.
Thanks, Ivan, for identifying this!

Hello Goldy! All I can say is that it's well hidden! :-) Great capture of this green bird in it's natural environment! Well done, thanks!

Mario

Hi Goldy,i don't know the name but i like a lot this unknown and rare birs, excellent point of view, thanks for share,Luciano

It does appear in my birds of India book which Fartash sent me...just as Ivan has said...Well captured considering it's hiding from you. Hide and seek with birds can be a fun way to spend the entire day:-)

Hello Goldy
This to me is a superb capture..The focussing and light were nearly impossible to cope with but you did..And what a result that it has been identified for you..I love a capture where the mystery is solved.
Best Regards
Paul

Hello Goldy,
This is a Brown-headed Barbet (Megalaima zeylanica). I have seen this species in Goa but did not succeed in photographing it. So it is nice to see this capture that is sharp enough to ID among the dense branches of its habitat.
TFS this one,
Ivan

Ola Goldy

Hi Goldy,

I don't think I've seen a Brown Headed barbet before. He is trying his best to hide from you but you outsmarted him by getting a good view of his head and plummage. Always nice to see birds in their natural habitats.

What an interesting bird!
You must have lots of unusual species in India... I hope I can visit there someday.
Good detail in the feathers.
Great composition too.
Well exposed.

Nice work, Goldy!

Cheers,
Joe
