Hi all,
This is a mating picture of of Ariadne merione, also known as the Common Castor, which is a is a brownish-orange butterfly with brown lines whose larvae feed almost exclusively on Castor Ricinus communis. This species is found in south-eastern Asia. Their wingspan ranges between 30-35mm. Like others in the Nymphalidae family, their front two legs are small and unused, effectively making them four-legged. These smaller appendages are covered with long hairs, giving them the characteristic brush look.

What i liked in this shot is that you can see both sides of the wings

for more info have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariadne_merione

Thanks in advance for dropping by

Cheers,
Goutham R

Hi goutham,
you got them in a wrong time and in not so pleasing situation. otherwise its good to see their romance. could have avoided the colorful patches in the bg. tfs.

Hi Goutham. A nice picture of the pair together. You have taken this with fine detail and rich colours. One showing open wing the other closed . well done TFS.

Hello Goutham,
I think, the moment captured is just right. Your picture nicely shows the upperside and
the underside wing pattern of the species concomitantly. Aan admirable sharp picture considering an exposure of 1/25 sec!!!
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Goutham,
Excellent capture of a pair of A. merione in copulo taken from a fine POV that shows the uperr and undersides of the wings with fine sharpness and good use of ambient light. The contrast with the BG is also great.
A very nice macro and thanks for sharing it!
Regards,
Ivan

Hi Goutham,
Very impressive picture of butterflies mating, we have been seeing coupling of butterflies regularly but this one is different, shows both sides of the butterfly.TFS.

Yes, this is an unusual mating position in which both the butterflies present a different aspect of their wings, Goutham.
Needless to say, you have captured the scenario with precision and eye for details and colours.
TFS and regards.
