Hello Friends,

Today presenting another wasp which is the largest I’ve ever seen(nearly 2 inches, head to abdomen). It resembles Potter Wasp which belongs to the Subfamily Eumeninae. I’m not sure. May be a Mud-dauber Wasp, Sceliphron laetum. Need experts help for exact ID.

I did’t see this wasp there after. I saw few images of their nest in the WEB and amazingly they look like a real mud pot. I think there should be a way to track and spot this wasp’s nest .

While taking this picture I could approach upto one and half meter distance, then I got a warning sign by a flick of the wings(pl. see the workshop-sorry for the poor quality). This was the first step of warning and latter it started buzzing. So I backed off.

This was shot under a canopy on a bright sunny day. Converted from RAW to JPEG. Sharpened a little, cropped and resized.

Thanks for stopping by.

Vral,

Very good lighting and detail of the pic. Your subject is very charp and the dark, OOF BG and DOF make it a quality image.
TFS,
Sheriff

Hello kv,

Very nice picture of this potter wasp. I had a look on internet to see if I could find the ID but that seems to bee difficult. The only picture I could find which looks like to yours was entitled "Common potter wasp". Excellent sharpness. Great colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hi KV,
Wonderful close-up shot of this Wasp with very impressive sharpness and colours. Good use of flash lighting and the resultant black BG lets the subject stand out perfectly. Very nicely composed. Thanks for sharing this fine image.
