Hi all,

First I would like to wish all of you a very happy and prosperous new year, Last week end I was traveling through a place called as Coorg, which is part of majestic western ghats of India. During my early morning walk near my holiday cottage, I noticed this gem and readily accepted its invitation :-)
This is a Damselfly (Suborder Zygoptera), which is an insect in the Order Odonata. Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along, and parallel to, the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base, caudal to the connecting point at the body. Damselflies are also usually smaller, weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.

Thanks to HP this is Rusty Marsh Dart (Ceriagrion olivaceum).

Hope u ppl like it.

Hi Goutham.
My best wishes in New Year to you and your family too. And thanks for charming pictures, which you have shared with us in 2008. This one is also wonderful in every respect. Composition and POV are brilliant as well as the DOF, sharpness and details of the insect and leaf. BG also cannot be better for this subject. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Goutham!
First of all - all the best in 2009! :)
According to the photo - unformtunatelly I can not help you with ID (but you are right, this is member of Zygoptera, family Coenagrionidae I suppose, a female).
Very sharp and nice capture. I like details, DOF and contrast between insect and BG.
All the best from winter Lodz!
Radomir

So you were in coorg to see new year.
