This one is a very strange fly. Very tiny one too. You can compare the size in the WS.

Sepsidae are a family of flies, commonly called the black scavenger flies or ensign flies. There are approximately 250 species worldwide. They are usually found around dung or decaying plant and animal material. They resemble ants having a "waist" and glossy black body . Many Sepsidae have a curious wing-waving habit made more apparent by dark patches at the wing end.

Many species have a very wide distribution, reflecting the coprophagous habit of most Sepsidae. Some species have been spread over large territories in association with livestock. Adult flies are found mostly on animal and human excrement (less often on other rotting organic matter), where eggs are laid and larvae develop, and on nearby vegetation, carrion, fermenting tree sap, and shrubs and herbs.

Many Sepsidae apparently play an important biological role as decomposers of animal excrement. Some species may have a limited hygienic importance because of their association with human feces. Others are useful tools in forensic entomology.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Diptera
Suborder: Brachycera
Subsection: Acalyptratae
Superfamily: Sciomyzoidea
Family: Sepsidae

Hi Haraprasan,

Why do the flies pose for you so nicely? As soon as I get close to one it takes off. A wonderful capture of this one with natural colors an amazing details. Shows off wonderfully against the leaves.

Jane

Hallo Haraprasan
Time has been one of my worst enemies lately and I missed out on a lot of super images. This is really splendid image. The body of this unknown fly reminds me of a light bulb, and it has a shine to it as well. The almost golden metallic colour captured on the insect thorax is really eye-catching and striking. A great macro with details displayed with great clarity. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Anna

Hello Haraprasan,
A very interesting looking little fly. It looks a little bit like some Signal flies (Platystomatidae). But I'm not an expert. Last year I caught a fly looking quite relative to yours and I found in Marie-christine's (mariki) galery some similar looking species.
Would be very nice to have its ID.
Thanks alot
Anne

I would be wonderful if some day one of us captured a new addition...they do exist....this is wonderfully clear..and certainly if there is a bug-ologist out there somewhere it will be ID'ed.. Nice capture HP..I have a few I wish I could do as this..

Hara, This is a very good shot. I like the way you had composed and created subject in the frame. The fly though looks familiar having seen but lack of knowledge prevents from giving the ID. I have seen your WS and admit the insect is too small. Well done Ganesh

La luz no impidió que captaras a la perfección a este pequeño insecto. Creo que has sacado un buen partido a tu Canon + Tamron !!
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Haraprasan.
I have missed this amazing macro shot and now I correct my mistake. You have reproduced all tiniest and fine details and features of the fly fantastically. Crystal sharpness of the image, superb lights and great use of all your nice equipment. Bravo. Perfect work.
