[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a snap of one of the ghost trees from my Pench camp. In India the tree is also called as ‘Kullu’. I have not found much information about this tree on the net. But this is what I have gathered from our Safari guide.

The name ghost tree came from obvious reason – The colour of the tree and the branch structure. The tree changes its colours according to the season. In summer it takes white colour. The other colours are pale green, pink and light blue. The wood of this tree is soft and tigers sharpen their nails or mark territories by scratching its bark. The tree always has a rock stony base as you can see in this snap. This also makes it a perfect habitat for leopards as well (when tigers not around). The tree is easy for climb and leopards can take their kill on the top of the tree. Due to the rocky structure at the base the position of the tree is always on higher grounds which makes leopards to keep watch on tigers and the other enemies.

The fact that the tree has taken roots through the cracks in the hard rocks and has grown big is in itself interesting, Kedar. The 'ghost' myth is a different thing altogether and can be relegated to the domain of collective human mind and its fantasies.
I notice that these trees are lefless in May. I believe they would turn lush green through monsoon season.
The image documents the typical terrain and the growth of these treee on it very well.
