If you sit on Varkala Beach at low tide awhile, the crabs will ignore your presence. Foreigners send the crabs scuttling to their homes. Soon the beach is filled with eye stalks peeking out holes. At first only young ones will come out, then bigger and bigger ones venture out. They sometimes drag bits of mother of pearl from shells into their holes, interior decorating?
