Photo of a dragonfly.
Scientific Name: Sympetrum striolatum
Thats all i can provide information about the subject. Couldnt get much on the subject from the net.
This particular dragonfly is a fast flier. I had to chase it around for quite some time. It is also abundantly found in Kerala and parts of Karnataka, India. |

Wow, that's one very interesting type of dragonfly you've captured here, a truly beautiful specimen with the wing pattern and the green running down its back. However, I don't quite think you've got the name right - not unless the Sympetrum striolatum looks entirely different in your part of the world. You can see a S. striolatum here. It would be interesting to know the real name of this chap ;-))
It's a pity you couldn't get a bit closer (but they're skittish, I know ;-)), and the photo's on the dark side, but I'm a sucker for seeing new species, so thanks for posting ;-)
A hint for shooting dragonflies: Start by watching them. The males will often "patrol" a certain area, and if you find out what his favourite landing spots are, you can then take up position near one and stand still waiting for him to land. That way you have a chance of getting closer. Happy hunting!

Interesting captured.Though i littel darker pic,the wing details are sharp.
I like the simetry you obtained in this shot, and the subject is very interesting with the wonderful patterns on the wings. I made a workshop to put some more light on it and discover some more details. Hope you like!
