[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It was a hazy morning by a Paddyfield about five minutes walk from my hotel. There was the smell of smoke from thousands of small fires that sent the sooty remains of cleared stubble from the fields up into the air to add to the haze.
This Indian Roller used a dead palm trunk as a vantage point to find the creepy crawlies that scurried away from the people working below. He would dive down now and then to pounce on an insect or small reptile and display his showy wings in flight.
Indian Rollers are found mainly on the Indian Subcontinent but also occur across from the Arab Emirates to Cambodia.
I digiscoped this shot at a distance of about 25 meters. I couldn't capture him in flight.
