Indian Peacocks
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I photographed these birds in Corbett early one morning, right after sunrise. I sighted these three in a row and quickly tried to photograph them. It was freezing cold, and an hour drive to the park, by which time we were frozen to the open car, but so worth it for the shots we got. I was lucky to see 3 birds posing again.
Some details on the bird:
The Indian Peafowl is monotypic, while the Green Peafowl has 3 subspecies. The two species are largely allopatric but will hybridise in captivity.
Plumage
Closeup of an Indian Blue Peacock's upper tail coverts
The male (peacock) Indian Peafowl has beautiful iridescent blue-green or green coloured plumage. The so-called "tail" of the peacock, also termed the "train", is not the tail quill feathers but highly elongated upper tail coverts. The train feathers have a series of eyes that are best seen when the tail is fanned. Both species have a head crest.
The female (peahen) Indian Peafowl has a mixture of dull green, brown, and grey in her plumage. She lacks the long upper tail coverts of the male but has a crest. Females can also display their plumage to ward off danger to her young or other female competition.
The peafowl are forest birds that nest on the ground. The Pavo peafowl are terrestrial feeders but roost in trees. |

I like the composition very much, Liezel.
It seems that three is your magic number.
Your three lapwings were fantastic too.
Great pose and details.
What is unusual about this shot is the fact that these peacocks are standing against that ochre BG, and stand out beautifully.
TFS. : )
great pic, TFS Ori
I like this shot very much. first the light, early morning sun gives such a nice glow. second, the round pebbles gives an interesting character to the composition and third, you got three not just one and I like the way they are forming a slanting line.TFS!
