| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is no orchid, but it is one of the Lobster-claws, probably Heliconia rostrata. These plants are from the order Zingiberales and are closely related to bananas, strelitzias, cannas, or ginger plants.
You can read more about the Heliconias at Wikipedia.

Hi Subhash
This is no orchid, but it is one of the Lobster-claws, probably Heliconia rostrata. These plants are from the order Zingiberales and are closely related to bananas, strelitzias, cannas, or ginger plants.
You can read more about the Heliconias at Wikipedia, and here or here. Hardly what one could call an orchid?

Loot
PS. Thanks Subhash. It is great to see that you have updated the title and the notes. We are all here to learn more about nature and obviously we do not know everything about anything and all of us have our moments when we just do not know what we have photographed. That is when we need to consult, research, or plainly depend on someone who perhaps does know something about the species or subject to assist with information. Once obtained (I believe) it is our responsibility to rectify our notes or to include our learnings so that we provide the correct information. After all, this is an open site that also provide a service to the whole of the internet community so we need to make sure that what we are saying are factually correct as far as possible within our abilities. Unfortunately we see many times how someone might receive some assistance, information, or the correct identification and the notes just never gets updated.
