Redwattled lapwing, Vanellus indicus is a familiar plover, bronze brown above, white below, with black breast, head and neck, and a crimson fleshy wattle in front of each eye.A broad white band running down sides of neckto meet the white underparts. Sexes alike.Its striking appearance is supplemented by its noisy nature with a loud "did- he do it?" call.

It affects open country, ploughed feild,grazing land etc. it runs about in short spurtsand dips forward obliquely to pick up food in the typical plover manner. Its ceaselessly vigilant day or nightand foremost to detect intrusion and raise the alarm.

It eats insects, grubs,molluscs, etc.The nesting season is chiefly March to August.it lays 4 stone coloured with blackish blotches eggs on bare ground in open wasteland, occasionally with the depression ringed around with a few pebbles.They match the soil to perfection and are difficult to find.

I came across this lapwing on the paddyfields behind my home where it is nesting. Last sunday when I inspected the nest there were only two eggs.But today much to my amusement i found three eggs in the nest. I am waiting hopefully to see them hatched. Since the eggs and the nests are very difficult to differentiate from the ground , they often get trampled under foot.

A nice capture of this lapwing,unknown to me,it has good colors and details,maybe compo would have been better if you placed the bird off centered of this compo,

Godd chance to take this bird. You got him close. but the colors are not that good. You need to do some PS. If you had given workshop i would have done. Anyway, nice to see this chirpping bird

Just beautiful, Smitha.
This bird has striking features and colors, and you have presented them well with excellent sharpness and exposure. I really like the warm browns in the composition.

POV, focus, colours and details are very good.
The vegetation in focus in front and blurred background give a fine perspective on the bird.
You mean the nest is on the ground level?
Is there no way you can stop it from getting trampled?
