Female Sumba Hornbill (Aceros everetti)
Hornbills (famili Bucerotidae) are a group of birds whose bill is shaped like a cow's horn, but without a twist, sometimes with a casque on the upper mandible. The Bucerotidae family includes 57 species, 9 of them endemic to the southern part of Africa. Their distribution ranges from Africa south of the Sahara through tropical Asia. Most are arboreal birds of dense forest, including Sumba hornbill.
Some species have different plumages for each sex. The Sumba Hornbill, Aceros everetti is a medium-sized, up to 70cm long, blackish hornbill. The male has a large yellowish bill with red patch at base, serrated casque, dark reddish brown on crown and nape, and paler throat. The female has an entirely black plumage.
The Sumba Hornbill is distributed to semi-evergreen forests of Sumba, in East Nusatengga Province. The Sumba Hornbill is a monogamous species. Hornbills are omnivorous birds, eating fruit, insects and small animals.
Due to ongoing habitat lost, limited range, small population size and hunted in some areas, the Sumba Hornbill is classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Hi Ben

What a great POV you managed here - it totelly gave the pictuer and its subject o whole new dimension! Great job!
Also the dark colors and vague light make out a great mood for the picture. The natural colors are great and the details nice and sharp.

Hi Ben,
this is a great portrait of this bird. I like the POV a lot and you cropped it very well. I would like to see a little mor contrast to bring out the colors more, but all in all this is a fabulous composition.
TFS..Sky

Bonjour Benyamin,
quel oiseau étonnant! Et quels yeux !
C'est une très belle photo, très fine.
Très beau portrait.
Merci du partage
Moustique :o)

Good portrait, Benyamin.
Fine focus on the bill, eye and blue sack at the throat.
That white spot in the BG gave me the impression of a crown in the thumbnail view.
TFS and bye.

Great DOF, and a wonderful close up of this unusual bird!
HOw did you come across him? Is this from the wild or is he in a protected invoirment? Not a very atractive fella but its a great photo! TFS

Hola Benjamin.- Otra muy buena foto de esta rara Ave. Su pico es muy grande y tiene agradables colores. Luis52.

Just a amazing looking bird Benyamin!
A wonderful capture of this vulnerable species. A interesting composition looking up at the Hornbill from below. It makes her look very large. I love the detail and especially her eye, it has so much character. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful species.
