Lalau is a local name for a plant with a number of wild bee hives. This Lalau has approximately 35 bee hives and would annually produce tons of forest honey. The plant is Gluta renghas, a common species occurring in the riverine. However, not all Gluta renghas plant will host the wild bees (Apis dorsata). The occurrence of Lalau may indicate the forest habitat in the corresponding area is still under "good" condition.
This Lalau is found in Pawan River, Ketapang District. I took this picture when I did a survey on the peatland forest of Sungai Putri last November 2008.
