This beautiful dragonfly with the red abdomen is Lathrecista asiatica (Odonata, Libellulidae). Sitting on this thin twig, it is waiting for passing insects as prey.
The picture was taken in an area of mountain rain forest located in South-East Sulawesi (Indonesia), located near Tawangga. Access to the mountains in this region is difficult. Sometimes one wishes to be able to fly like this insect. |
