I've not been out today to capture anything new, so I've dug down in my library...

This is a pair of Euchrysops cnejus (Fabricius, 1798) also known as the Gram Blue. This butterfly ranges from Arabia to India, Sri Lanka, Indo-China, the Malay Peninsula, the Philippines and eastward through the Indonesian arcgipelago to the Australian region.

The male is on the left, and the flash has captured the movement of his left hind leg as he stimulates the female. So it appears he has 7 legs!

Many food plants are listed for the larvae, which is probably why it is so widespread and successful a species. These host plants include Cycads, Euphorbias and Orchids. The larvae are attended by ants.

This image was scanned from a 35mm slide using the OpticFilm7200i film scanner, cleaned and sharpened in CS3.
