[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Long Tailed Blue Lampides boeticus is well-known to all Old World butterfly enthusiasts. It is very widespread and even recorded in UK as an occasional migrant. This is an example from as far afield as Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it also is quite successful.

Despite its wide distribution in Europe, Africa, South and East Asia and even Hawaii, its appearance is remarkably constant and there are no recognised sub-species.

This picture was chosen as an expressive portrait showing the upperside of the butterfly, so hard to capture because of the more normal wings-closed posture in warm conditions.

I previously figured a mating pair of boeticus from the same location.

This picture scanned from 35mm, resized and sharpened for TN.

Hello Alan,
Excellent capture of a Long-tailed Blue, nicely scanned to digitalise a fine slide. Good sharpness and detail and enough opening of the wings to display the upper surface, which is not easy in the tropics.
I used to use ring flash when photographing butterflies, which was best when the vegation was close to the butterfly, this avoiding the 'night-time' effect.
Thanks for sharing this one,
Regards, Ivan

Hi Alan, great macro of elegant butterfly, excellent sharpness, splendid contrast with dark BG, very well done, HAPPY NEW YEAR ciao Silvio

Hi Alan,
A lovely capture of this long tailed blue. Very nice details and composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year 2008.

Hi Alan,
the cosmopolite little Long Tailed Blue shown in a very elegant way here. Have met that species several times near Vienna, and now this one comes from far away Sulawesi! Wonderful pose, perfect approach, allowing us a really good look at the uppersides of wings that are not seen often at rest. And I like the way you are showing the twisted tails.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Happy New Year!
