INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on insects of Sulawesi. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups of this huge island.
Large parts are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The dragonfly shown here is
- Neurothemis terminata
- family: Libellulidae
The species is not confined to Sulawesi in its distribution but occurs in large parts of South East Asia. It is a very common dragonfly but is always impressive.

Location
Porabua - a small village in the vast mountaineous and rain forest covered region north of the line Kolaka - Kendari (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

Conditions
- natural light
- no wind
- handheld
Patience is necessary to come close to this shy dragonfly.

Hi Peter. Thanks for posting this Neurothemis terminataas it one i have never seen before. You have taken it with a good pov letting us see the open wings and full body shot. Your use of the light has given rich colours and good detail. I like the clear tips to the wing. Well done TFS.
