NATURE OF SULAWESI and INSECTS OF SULAWESI
These series of postings are intended to increase the knowledge on Sulawesi's biodiversity. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups and on spiders of this huge island. Many new species can be expected to be discovered. Large parts of Sulawesi are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The picture shows a small spider and a plant,
both unknown to me.
The spider species most probably belongs to the genus Rhene of the family Salticidae.
The first pair of the spider's legs appears unusually strong.
Body lenght of the spider: about 8 mm.

Location
Rain forest margin, about 20 km east of Kolaka (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

Conditions
- natural bright sunlight (see parameters: f/20 and 1/60 sec)
- no wind (very hot and humid)
- handheld

Hallo Peter,
Mit den Spinnen verbindet mich keine Freundschaft, aber diese kleine haarige erinnert mich an die im Wallis lebende Röhrenspinne (Eresus niger), allerdings sind die Farben anders. Auch die Blume auf der sie sich tummelt, scheint sehr speziell und schön zu sein. Eine ganz andere Welt..
Herzlichen Dank für diese Serie exotischer Wesen. Warte auf die nächste :-)
