[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Jamides Hubner, is arguably one of the most fascinating genera of the Oriental Lycaenidae. It contains more than 30 species, many of which are widely distributed, yet it also has a number of species which are very restricted in their range and just occasionally new species are still being found.

Study of the distribution of these species along with geological information from different island groups in SE Asia has contributed to the biogeography of the whole region. Their fascination has also inspired a very interesting website here.

This picture is of Jamides schatzi Rober, 1886. This species has an unusual distribution, occurring in Palawan, Sulawesi and the North Moluccas, but not in Malaysia or the western Indonesian Islands.

The butterfly pictured is a male of the subspecies argentiferus from the Sulawesi mainland. The upperside is a very pale silvery blue, similar to Arhopala argentea which I pictured a few days ago, which is also known only from Sulawesi and with which it may gain some advantage from mimicry.

This picture is scanned from an old slide, resized and sharpened for TN.

Hello Alan,
Another very fine scanned image of a Hairstreak from Sulawesi. It is a very beautiful close capture showing interesting markings and fine colours.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Ciao Alan,
le tue foto sono per me sempre molto interessanti, perchè mostrano specie che non conosco.
Le tue note, sempre molto complete, mi permettono di inquadrare esattamente le specie che ogni giorno proponi.
Grazie,
Marcello

Hello Alan,
thank you for posting another unique pictur eof your collection. Although scans rarely attain the quality of a direct digital image, your presentations from the pre-digital era are most valuable, showing peculiar species from peculiar regions.
In spite of being a scan, your picture shows the details of the wing colour patterns very well. Focus and sharpness are pretty good.
Best wishes, Peter
