[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At the temple of Ulu Watu are a growing band of Long-Tailed Macacques. They were very tame and clearly spoiled by the misguided indulgence of tourists. However, to photograph them was a risky business as they were highly agressive and love nothing better than to steal your belongings - especially cameras.

In places they surrounded on all sides - on the ground, in the trees and bushes and on the temple walls. I was lucky that my taxi driver came along and helped keep them at bay with the use of his large umbrella!

This photo makes them look so gentle!

DOF was a bit limited though... I would have like to get the whole face in sharp focus rahter than just the eyes...

Hi Ed
There is only one thing you can trust of wild animals...they will remain wild animals. Even though they are accustomed to tourists and people in their near vicinity they are still no house trained pets and can attack in an instant, for a myriad of different or unexplained reasons. The gentlest looking animal can turn into a vicious attacker within seconds.
This is a very nice portrait of the macacque. The composition is good, the colours look very natural, the DOF is quite fine as there is sufficient detail from the nose backwards to the ears, and the BG is well OOF and enhanced the monkey very well.

Excellent shot, Ed. This macaque seems to be wearing white mascara around his eyes. Very sharp details and great eye contact. Nice palette of browns on the fur. Well done and TFS. : )
