This bird is a male of mandarin duck. The male does remarkable color like this though the female is ash brown. It swims, dives in the surface of the water, and is busy with flapping worth like this when often observing it. When winter comes, it is a migrant that comes from the region in the north. I took this photograph on the pond in the north in a vast forest in Meiji Jingu.
