[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi friends,

Red-flanked Bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus)

The adult male has blue upperparts, orange side and white underparts, female is plain brown above and has a dusky breast. It takes about three years for males to become a bright blue, so I can't know the difference between juvenile male and adult female.
It migrates from subalpine zone to flatland in winter. It defends each other's turf and stay in the shadow of the tree.

Thanks and have a nice day,
Toshi

Wow, what a super photo of this amazing looking bluetail. I have never seen it but I sure wish I get the oportunity some day.

Very good detailed plumage, a great pose, and then that incredible colour!!!

What lens did you use here? Are these birds very rare in Japan?
Thanks for sharing this photo/Bengt
