Hello,
Japanese Woodpecker (Picus awokera)
This woodpecker can't be found every so often, however it isn't rare. And that there is no good chemistry between the bird and me :), because branches hide it from view when taking camera, or it appears closer to me when taking no camera with me. So this bird is the one that I have wanted to take it. About 200 photos were captured from 20 meters distance last week, I posted this picture(cropped) among it, that the tongue can be seen with careful look. Awo and kera as binomial name means green and woodpecker each in Japanese.
from Wikipedia...
Japanese Woodpecker (Picus awokera), also known as Japanese Green Woodpecker, is a medium-sized woodpecker similar and closely related to the Green Woodpecker, but endemic to Japan.
This species reaches about 30cm in length, with bright green wings and tail, a red or black mustache and crown (as opposed to the black face of the Green Woodpecker), gray head, neck, and chest, and white underparts with black markings.
Thank you and have a nice weekend,
Toshi |
