| After a half-hour walk to the small hill, I finally arrived at the summit. As soon as I arrived, several male of "scarce tortoiseshell" (Nymphalis xanthomelas) welcomed me. All of them were severely damaged after the hibernation. I put off my favorite blue rain gear and hanged it upon a wooden sign pole. One male flew circled over it and then perched on it. The male of this butterfly has a habit of patorling around open space to find a female butterfly for mating in early spring. This butterfly usually appears from June to July, and lives long until next spring. |
