[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Papilio machaon is visiting small flowers. I happened to encounter this scene when I arrived at a summit of a small hill. Males of this butterfly have a habit of "hill-topping" to mate females. I saw several butterflies were flying around the peak, then I watched one male suddenly flew down to the ground. I cautiously approached and I saw it was visiting pretty purple flowers.

Papilio machaon is widely distributed in Eurasian continent and even in North America. At the low altitude in Japan, it appears from late March to October. Its summer form is quite large and wing markings get much blackish. Most European people are used to yellow-colored and medium size of this butterfly, so they are usually very surprized to see such a large "machaon".

Hi Motoki , very nice detail here , and good color too , I like the POV you got him on I can even see his little taster in the flower . maybe a portrait orientation would have gotten more butterfly though.
