nagraj.v

So, you're still in Japan Ori, a beautiful macro capture of that spider and its prey, but sorry, hope somebody else can help with the IDs.
Cheers,
MEhmet

Hi Ori,
I think this is probably the Japanese golden orb web spider Nephila calavata. I found a lot of these in Japan myself last year and posted a couple of pictures. This is a great action shot of the female spider wrapping up a green jewel beetle. Good details and plenty of interest. Well done.

Hi Ori.
I have surprised that spider could to catch this beetle. I have never seen such scenes. Excellent close-up and I welcome nice framing of the scene. My best wishes and TFS
Alexei.

Well done on this action shot. Great colors and sharpness. The DOF could have been a shade larger, perhaps.
The prey is not a beetle, but a stink bug (Heteroptera, family pentatomidae), but I do not know the exact species...

Hi Ori,

An excellent shot, good and clear. The spider looks like some sort of Argiope, not sure though. As someone else mentioned, the insect is a true bug of some sort, does look like a variety of Stink Bug, but I can't help any more than that.

Hi Ori,

hello Ori,
You have caught here two very interesting creatures, one of them unfortunately the prey of the other. The Heteroptera has amazing metallic-green wings and the spider has beautiful patterns on its body. Two species we don't see often here on TN. Very special shot
You seem to have a great time in Japan!
Best regards
Anne
