Red-Naped Trogon (Harpectus kasumba)
Trogons are rather quiet by nature and this one caught me by surprise when I noticed him watching me at eye level. They have been observed to have a preference for horizontal perches and are more often than not found in pairs i.e. if you see one the mate is nearby.
This was taken in the rainforest in Sepilok in Sabah, Malaysia. It was a chance grab that I did not even have time to change my camera settings.

Hello Phil,
Exceptional that you can make a photo of this bird in the wild and so close. Superb colours, sharpness, frontal POV and composition. Very nice eye-contact and OOF BG.
Regards,
Peter

Hats off !!! 1/3 sec shutter !!! Exceptional sharpness !!
Hello Phil,
Brilliant color on this species. Your instinctive reaction was right on the money. It apparently is a very calm species for such a slow shutter speed to produce this sharp an image.
Regards,
Greg
