Oriental Darter - Juvenile
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This Oriental Darter was the sole wader in the pond. I studied his habits all afternoon and took the opportunity to capture this and a series of feeding shots.
This is a juvenile. When it swims its entire body is submerged except its head above water like the periscope of a submarine. Once the prey is spotted it will dive and has been observed to remained submerged for up to 2 minutes at times.
