Hello friends in TN,

It was raining this evening and as soon as the rain subsides, I was walking outside the house and stumbled upon this praying mantis.

Mantis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The insect order Mantodea or mantises consists of approximately 2,300 species worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats, of which a majority are in the family Mantidae. For most of the past century, only this single family was recognized within the order, and the term "mantid" was therefore historically used for any member of the order; technically, however, the term only refers to this one family, meaning the species in the other eight recently-established families are not mantids, by definition (i.e., they are empusids, or hymenopodids, etc.), and the term "mantises" (or the more colloquial "praying mantises") should be used when referring to the entire order. Often mistakenly spelled preying mantis (an eggcorn, since they are notoriously predatory), they are in fact named for the typical "prayer-like" stance. The word mantis derives from the Greek word mantis for prophet or fortune teller. In Europe, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa. The closest relatives of mantises are the orders Isoptera (termites) and Blattodea (cockroaches), and these three groups together are sometimes ranked as an order rather than a superorder.

Hi Junsi,
The picture is a little dark but we can appreciate very nice details and tones of colors. I like those droplets on the flowers and composition with this tinny mantis. The dark background creates nice effect. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Jusni,
A beautiful capture of this praying mantis over the oleander flower I guess. Excellent sharp details and a very good composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

In the thumbnail I could not make it out and thought perhaps this was a new name for a flora...but I see it now...do you have many of them over there? I only saw 2 last year which was 2 more than I saw in all my years in the wilderness...The flora is almost the focal point...hmmmmm
Bob

Abang Jusni,
You got good angle to capture the Mantis and the flowers, and I think the flash light centred more on the flowers than the Mantis as a subject! but still brings good clarity, sharpness and details on it!
just my opinion, hope you do not mind!
greeting
Tony

Hi Jusni,
Wonderful shot of this Praying Mantis on Desert Rose flowers. Superb use of flash lighting and the water drops looks beautiful on the flowers. Very neat and sharp image with lovely colours. Excellent POV to portray this scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Jusni, this is a dream shot. I love shooting after the rain, you get great colour saturation, and you might find things wet, as you have. You also got a bonus with this Preying Mantis. This worked out very well with excellent colour, and a very good composition with the mantis on the flower. The background has been nicely muted to leave us with your two main elements, both in very good sharp focus.

Thanks, John

Salam Jusni
a great macro of praying mantis and beautiful flower, which it supplies a richness for composition. Sharp details, POV and colors great. good and informative notes always. Thanks.
well done my friend
Ahmet

Hi Jusni,

Interesting subject on a beautiful flower, but the Mantis is underexposed, and I think you needed to get closer and emphasize the Mantis more. The flower is out of focus, so that's not helping in this instance. It's a nice photo, but I know you can do better! :-)

Thanks,
John

Hello Jusni

A lovely capture of this mantis on a beautiful flower.
The shot is dark but the lighting available was well utilized.
The contrast is very good, and the colours are rich.
The mantis is well focused with sharp detail.
