Pacific Swallow - Hirundo tahitica
This bird is local and not to be mistaken for the very similar looking migrant barn swallows this time of the year that have a black necklace.
This shot was taken in the golden light of a setting sun. The bird was on a perch in an ex tin mining pool some 20m off hence the 2.0II extender used making it a whopping 1200mm. I had to pump up the ISO to be able to get the f stop down to f/13 otherwise the picture would have been too soft. The perch was moving in the wind ever so slightly hence a faster shutter speed than I would normally have preferred.
1D Mk3 + 600mm + 2.0 II ext (1/250s f/13.0 ISO 1250 ev +1/3) |
