Hello friends in TN,

I like this graceful Tree Nymph and pleasurable to watch in flight. Another shot fron the Butterfly Farm in Penang.

Idea stolli logani (Common Tree Nymph)

The Tree Nymph is always a show-stealer whenever it makes its appearance. There are four species of the genus Idea in Malaysia - I. stolli, I. lynceus, I. hypermnestra and the extremely rare I. leuconoe., have been observed.

The butterfly is pale whitish grey with black spots with the veins black dusted. Amongst the four species, I. stolli logani is the smallest, with an average wingspan of 180 mm.

Several individuals can sometimes be spotted, frolicking amongst the treetops. Occasionally, a number of them can be found around a flowering tree, particularly of the Eugenia species. The males can be distinguished by its sharper forewings and smaller size and they also extrude a pair of yellow hair pencils from the abdomen when handled.

Regards,
Jusni

As usual, a very good macro work Jusni.

Lovely grey/black&white butterfly against the green leaves. Sharp focused that show all the detail.
TFS,

You present the colours and delicate patterns of this very clearly and your notes are super...It is a fine image and worthy of note!

Hi Jusni,
Excellent image!
I like the close approach got here and the good details on the insect's wings.
Fill flash worked pretty well, and like the way it produced sense of depth on the foliage around.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Hello Jusni,
This fine shot of an Idea species brings back happy memories of our visit to Penang Butterfly Farm and though I try to avoid giving critiques on images of captive creatures, I can't resist this one for the way you took it with fine sharpness and well composed against the contrasting vegetation.
Thanks for sharing this one,
Ivan

Very nice shot Jusni,
Tree Nymphs are very striking insects!
Great lighting and natural colours.
Excellent POV.
Superb clarity.
I think there's a bit too much excess space so I did a workshop to show a different composition... I hope you don't mind.
This is still a superb shot though!
Well done my friend.

Joe

hi Jusni,
another great butterfly shot... this one is really nice in that completely spread out pose. great focus and detail. really nicely lit and nicely composed..
a suggestion.. if this is cropped, and you had plenty of room around the butterfly to play with, maybe could rotate a bit to get a interesting diagonal composition.. just an idea.. =) great work. tfs
