Tiger's Whiskers
(Black Bat Flower, Cat's Whiskers, Devil Flower)
Tacca chantrieri
See the whole flower
Tacca chantrieri, called the devil flower, no doubt, from the malevolent way the eyes in the bloom seem to be following your every move! It grows to about 2ft. in height with flowers complete with filaments or whiskers 12in. long forming a flowing forked tail. Tacca chantrieri is native to Southeast Asia. The purple-black flower looks somewhat like a flying bat, a sinister face or a mean cat with lots of whiskers. Bat Plant usually blooms in late summer and early fall.
This photo was taken at the Butterfly Sanctuary in Penang.

Hi Manyee,
A very beautiful flower. Your composition is superb. All the technical stuff is spot on, but the presentation/composition makes this shot. Notes amd link to full flower shot are most helpful. Very well done!

p.s. Your grandson is one handsome fellow! Though I was on the wrong page for a moment.
