[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot (taken at the Butterfly Sanctuary in Penang, Malaysia) actually shows two butterflies. The smaller one is the Malaysian Blue Clipper Butterfly (Parthenos Sylvia). It is of average size, what you would normally think of when you think butterfly (How's that for relativity? : P). It does give you an idea of how big the rice paper butterfly is.

Range: Philippines to Borneo and Formosa

Food: various species in the milkweed family

Notes: This species is likely to be conspicuous butterfly due to its large size (wingspan is 95 to 110 mm across), bright white color, and gentle, floating flight behavior. They tend to fly low and gracefully, lightly fluttering their wings while sipping nectar from flowers. Often, several males will simultaneously flutter around a female, vying for her attention. This is one of the largest species of milkweed butterflies (Danaiidae). Caterpillars are velvety black in color, marked with narrow yellow bands and red spots, and adorned with four pairs of black filaments. The chrysalis is yellow with black markings.
The name “Rice paper” comes from the translucent quality of the wings.
This species from tropical southeast Asia is a close cousin to our own familiar monarch butterfly.

HI Manyee,

A lovely capture of this nymph , its difficult to capture this total white butterfly , but u have managed not to only to capture the beauty but also managed to get sharpness and BG.

Hello Manyee,
your pictures shows 2 very different butterflies. I think the upper one is also worth to be mentioned.
While I. leuconoe is a slow gliding species, Parthenos sylvia (resting above) is a fast and strong flier which, however, can also be observed gliding slowly along forest edges.
The large leuconoe is shown with pretty good sharpness nearly on the entire wing surface.

Stunningly beautiful image of two butterflies, Manyee. Of course, you are referring to the bigger one here, but the other one is also very interesting.
The subject is captured in perfect detail atop the red leaf which serves as the most apt BG.

Excellent color and exposure Manyee.
I think the reds of the flower, and the dark BG really show off the rice paper nicely :)
The second smaller b-fly gives a sense of this b-flies large size too..

I'd say, relatively speaking, that is a BIG butterfly. It is interesting that with so much potential color in that sanctuary, your shot is mostly red, white and black. I am impressed with how many different butterflies you were able to shoot there.
