Hello friends in TN.

This dragonfly was captured in my backyard under low lighting. Caught without the tripod, I shot this in very shallow depth hand held. I tried to maintain the focus along the head and the body. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is the female Brachythemis contaminata which lacks the orange wing patches.

Brachythemis contaminata (Fabricius,1793)

Found in Asia: Bangladesh, China, Guandong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Hainan, Indonesia, India, Japan, Cambodia, Lao, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Viet Nam

Sub-Order: ANISOPTERA
Super-Family: LIBELLULOIDEA
Family: LIBELLULIDAE

Thanks for viewing. Best regards.

You have very steady hands Jusni, to shoot this at 1/40 while zoomed out to 195mm. Very nice job. The dragonfly is sharp with great colour seen in this low light condition. Shooting like this you've placed him against a dark background, which helps to show him off very naturally. Very nicely done.

Thanks, John

I think you are right about the ID, Jusni.
This is a very good capture from lateral point of view.
The focus is sharp and even on the entire subject.
The colours are natural.
I see some blue glow on the wings and wonder what caused it.

A fine looking d.fly and you must have very steady hands to get such a sharp image at 1/40 sec.s and with nearly 200 mm focal length Jusni! The unavoidably shallow DOF was a bonus here, causing the wings to look fuzzy towards the tips, creating a false movement effect. A good study indeed, my friend.
Mehmet

Nice work Jusni,
Excellent job when one considers the poor conditions and hand-held @ 1/40th second!
Great catch & Thank You,
Howard

Hello Jusni,

An excellent close-up, quite amazing that you hand-held the camera at 195mm at such a low shutter speed and got such sharp results.

Thanks,
John

Abang Jusni,

Hello Jusin,
That's a nice studio like capture you got of the dragonfly.Reminds me of one i came across in my balcony garden a few days ago at dusk.
This is neat shot with good details of the body. They look like helmeted soldiers of yore dont, they?THe dark BG provided by the flash works quite well.

Thanks for the share and Cheers
