Caryota mitis & Common Myna ( Ref : Wikipedia)

Caryota mitis
Fishtail palms typically form multi-stemmed clumps up to 25 ft (8 m) high and 12 ft (4 m) wide. Each slender stem is topped with several bipinnate leaves than can reach 9 ft (3 m) in length. The light green leaflets are shaped like a fish's tail fin, hence its common name Like other species in the genus (see C. urens), as well as the related genera Arenga and Wallichia, mature plants first begin flowering at the top of the stem. Subsequent flowering proceeds lower and lower down the stem. After the last flowering, the stem dies and should be removed. The clump will survive, however, and continue to produce more stems.

Caryota mitis is native to southeast Asia where it grows as an understory plant in tropical rain forests.

Light: Fishtail palm thrives full sun to part shade, and even in shade .
Moisture: This palm needs adequate moisture, but with good drainage.
Fishtail palm can also be propagated by division of clumps and separation of suckers from the parent clump.

The fishtail palm can be used in shrub borders and outdoor container plantings. It tolerates heavy shade and is often used in interior plantings in commercial buildings. It does well in indoor containers. Because it is shallow rooted, it should be planted in an area protected from wind. This palm is perfect for understory planting in woodland areas.

Fishtail palm is a tough, easy to grow palm that makes a great houseplant, and is sometimes available from discount store garden centers at a reasonable price.

WARNING
Avoid contact with the red fruit produced by this palm. It contains oxalic acid which is toxic when ingested, and contact with skin may result in severe chemical burns.

Common Myna
The Common Myna is readily identified by the brown body, black hooded head and the bare yellow patch behind the eye. The bill and legs are bright yellow. There is a white patch on the outer primaries and the wing lining on the underside is white. The race found in Sri Lanka, melanosternus is darker than the widespread nominate race. The sexes are similar and birds are usually seen in pairs.
Local names for the bird in India include Desi myna in Hindi, Lalri gutar shark in Punjabi, Salik in Bengali, Xalika sorai in Assamese, Kathayi Kabari in Gujarati, Shale or Salonki in Marathi, Narthan Kuruvi in Tamil, Goranka in Telugu, Kavalamkili in Malayalam, Goravanka in Kannada and Gon kawadiya in Sinhalese.

Juvenile begging for food from adult in West Bengal
The calls includes croaks, squawks, chirps, clicks and whistles, and the bird often fluffs its feathers and bobs its head in singing. The Common Myna screeches warnings to its mate or other birds in cases of predators in proximity or when its about to take off flying. Common Mynas are popular as cage birds for their singing and "speaking" abilities. They are believed to mate for life. They breed through much of the year depending on the location, building their nest in a hole in a tree or wall. The normal clutch is 4–6 eggs. The Asian Koel is sometimes brood parasitic on this species.
Like most starlings, the Common Myna is omnivorous. It feeds on insects and fruits and discarded waste from human habitation. It forages on the ground among grass for insects, and especially for grasshoppers, from which it gets the generic name Acridotheres, "grasshopper hunter". It however feeds on a wide range of insects, mostly picked from the ground. It walks on the ground with occasional hops.

Hello Foozi
You captured two interesting subjects in one image. I love the colour of the Caryota mitis. I'm impressed with how many berries are on one plant. The Myna bird look like he's having a feast. Nice compositon, detail and lighting.
Great note, very interesting.

Hello Foozi,

Freshly ripe berries like this is heaven for the birds!
I have a rowan tree nearby that was invaded and emptied during one day, must have been hundreds of birds...
This scene is well framed with fine details, good colour contrast!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Foozi,

The close-up view is showing the details and colors of the Common Myrna and of the Caryota mitis. The leaves are framing well the bird and the fruits. The light of the afternoon is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre
