[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Bearded Barbet (Lybius dubius), which lives in sub-Saharan savannah of western and central Africa. Barbets are members of the woodpecker family. It not only uses its sharp beak to feed on insects and fruit, but also pounds holes in dead trees or stumps for its nest. Barbets are social birds and live in groups of four to five. They feed chiefly on tree fruits and palm nuts, but are also know to dine on termites and other insects.

The bird was taken at the bird park in Kuala Lumpur on dark wet day. I know the focus is soft, that’s due to the slow shutter speed. Believe it or not, this was taken in the middle of the day using ISO 200 in an open aviary. It was so dull that the best speed I could get was 1/25 sec. But like the Scarlet Ibis I posted the other day, I thought it was worth posting because its such an unusual-looking species.
Thanks for looking

Hi Chris.
It is a really good one, considering the 1/25 and amount of zoom used. You have steady hands!
I do agreeis a bit soft, but I think you could have forced a bit USM to get it slightly more sharp.
I made a fast workshop, hope you dont mind.

Hi Chris,
is a very nice picture, maybe a bit tight above.
foe 1/25 this is a quite sharp picture, it's not easy to hold still wiht a small compact digi even wiht IS.
You could add some USM, Felipe did a good ws to show.
Good POV, nice colours and good DOF.
Well done.

Nice shot, solid detail, and your exposure and lighting are on the mark. Good POV and composition.

Hi Chris!
Very good shot of this colorfull and unknown to me bird. I like its pose - I bet it was jumping all time :-) S2 isn't best for birds' photography [I know it very well] but this time worked good. Only nit is slightly soft head.

I agree, although the workshops are also good. TFS

Very interesting species you captured, framing and the composition looks great on this one! I like its pose and glance too! Plain bg and the beautiful branch gave some nice feelings to the photo! A little bit soft, more sharpness needed i think! Anyway this is a beautiful shot! Thank you!
