Oriental Bay Owl
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
An Oriental Bay Owl (Phodilus badius) captured at the Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur.
Bay Owls are similar to the familiar barn owl and not much is known about their general ecology. They have shorter wings and tail than the barn owl and are much smaller, only 30cm in length. They also have small tufts in the ends of the facial disk on either side of the eyes. This helps their hearing to detect prey in the dense jungle that they reside in. They are known to feed on lizards, frogs, small mammals and maybe fish. They are distributed from India across south-east Asia to the Indonesian archipelago. |

Hi Chris.
I like this photo very much. You managed to reflect precisely character of an owl: thoughtfulness, gravity, calmness. Taking into account the excellent techniques (means framing, details, colours, DOF and BG) I rank this picture as superb. TFS.
