[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Green Sapphire (Heliophorus androcles) is a small butterfly that belongs to the Lycaenidae or Blues family. It occurs in North West India, Nepal, Sikkim, Assam and Western China. Burma, Northern Thailand but not Peninsula Malaya.

Wing span 30-35 mm. Upper surface of male wing brilliant metallic green or blue in colour. Female wing brown with golden-copper tinge and with an orange patch in the middle area of the fore-wing. Hind wing with a tail like elongation, with an orange band on the outer edge in females. Underside is yellow with a red marginal band and black tornal patches on the forewing. Recorded from Shillong during February - August. Some information on Indian butterflies here.

This specimen was basking on a low rock beside a trail in the mountains of Nepal at about 2,500 metres. The photo is an old one, from a 35mm slide, and I have done my best to make it presentable for TN. This took some changes to the brightness and contrast, together with a lot of sharpening after resizing.

The result is rather imperfect, but this is the first post for this species on TN, so I hope you enjoy it regardless of the quality.

Ciao Alan,
veramente splendido questo Licenide che ci mostri stasera.
Come giustamente dici, si tratta di una specie mai vista prima su TN e questo è molto importante, per me più importante del risultato tecnico.
Grazie ancora,
Marcello
