I see you have a VERY good camera. Here are a few recommendations for bird flight shots:
Try a f stop of around 6.3 to 8. Use Shutter speeds of above 1/1000. Try and steady yourself with a proper crouching position or a tree etc to steady the shot.
Browse the TN archives for excellent flight pics and study their EXIF data. It will help you improve and learn a lot about the proper settings to be used under varying conditions.
Last but not the least, you can update your TN profile with the list of equipment you have.
A belated welcome to TN. All the best. You have a good camera, a little adjustment here and there in the settings will have you posting superb pictures on TN soon :-), I am sure.
