| This native nepali one horn rhino is safe from poachers in the zoo, but not much to do. He can watch the people watch him, for entertainment. His horn is damaged. It is made of stiff hair. Rhinos are killed for their horns, and other body parts to make Chinese medicine. The parts are then smuggled to China and other countries for huge profits. I saw 5 Rhinos in tall grass, when I rode an elephant in the Terai in Nepal, 11 years ago. I went in 2006 again, and saw none. They are still there, but just a few. Once they are all gone, it is forever....... In the local paper I read often about poachers while in Nepal. Kathmandu zoo |
