Edited to note that these are cattle egrets, not cranes as originally posted. I have no idea why I called them cranes; I knew what they were when I took the picture.
Anyway, these egrets feed on insects stirred up by the carabao, which are a domesticated water buffalo. They are sometimes hunted by farmers in the Philippines. This carabao is in a flooded rice paddy, but cattle egrets are just as happy in a dry field. I doubt anyone knows what the carabao think of the arrangement. |
