Procyon lotor (Tr. Rakun, En. raccoon)

Raccoons are found across southern Canada, throughout most of the United States, and into northern South America. They have been introduced to parts of Asia and Europe and are now widely distributed there as well. (Nowak, 1991; Wilson and Ruff, 1999)


Raccoons are extremely adaptable, being found in many kinds of habitats and easily living near humans. They require ready access to water. Raccoons prefer to live in moist woodland areas. However, they can also be found in farmlands, suburban, and urban areas. Raccoons prefer to build dens in trees, but may also use woodchuck burrows, caves, mines, deserted buildings, barns, garages, rain sewers, or houses. Raccoons can live in a wide variety of habitats from warm, tropical areas to cold grasslands. (Nowak, 1991; Wilson and Ruff, 1999)

Hallo Mustafa
This is really special and very beautiful. A splendid, super focused portrait with fine detail, displaying the good-looking and healthy looking hair of its fur. Your use of the light in the innocent looking eyes is spot on. I just love the long whiskers, the wet snout and the "clean looking" face. This is a stunning portrait and deserves a round of applause. Focus, sharpness and composition are great. In fact the whole presentation is done in a very pleasant and eye-catching manner. Excellent all around, I thank you kindly for sharing.

I saw this raccoon in our zoo, it's really wonderful.

Hi Mustafa,
Even in a zoo, I never managed to take such a beautiful portrait of this cute animal. We have many in my region but they live at night so they are difficult to photograph. Last year, some of them managed to enter my house by the locked cat's door. Once, I woke up in the middle of the night and there was a one in my bedroom! We bought a cage to relocate them (without hurting them) and I think that they have learned the lesson, lol! Your portrait is well detailed and composed. Greetings,
